When pitching, the key is to offer reporting that is original; has a clear online audience; involves media elements that will engage readers on Apple News, Twitter, Facebook and other channels; and has a clear reason to exist online first, rather than in the magazine. We want great video, pictures, quotes and stories about issues that are starting conversations across the web.

On Monday to Thursday prior to the recession, the supplements carried substantial quantities of recruitment advertising as well as editorial on their specialised topics. However, this has diminished since the onset of recession, to the point that the supplements have been seriously contracted or no longer appear as independent sections. The formerly sixty-page-thick Society supplement (Wednesday) is now no more and has been absorbed into the main part of the paper.

Jason said that the purpose of launching MIT Tech Review was to create a new tech generation in Pakistan, which would be fully aware of what is happening around the world in technology and innovation. Earlier, welcoming the audiences, Dr Umar Saif said that the pseudo-science glamorisation became the main motive behind launching the MIT Tech Review from Pakistan, to provide authentic and credible knowledge on science and technology. Not spending time designing all the styles, layouts and variations at different break points beforehand, meant that we could in a way, design by development. We wouldn't wait until something was perfect to build it but instead just built something and worked on getting it perfect. The results are revealing. Top of the list is Facebook's Joanna Shields, the London-based exec responsible for the business in Europe, the Middle East and Africa. With 30 million users in Britain, half of whom return every day, Facebook has the reach and now revenue to give Shields real clout. Indeed, she knocked Google's UK boss Matt Brittin off the top spot to number four in this year's list. The UK remains Google's second biggest territory in terms of revenue - £2.15bn in 2010 - but the consensus among those we polled was that it's now Facebook's moment.

The position would suit somebody with proven experience in online journalism, and an exhaustive depth of ideas and energy, looking to take the next step in their career. The best candidate will be able to write tight and timely breaking news, turn their hand to reviews, features, video and audio production, and most importantly live and breathe the concepts, technology and innovation that fuel the WIRED world.

Does your team collaborate on lots of projects? Trello is an invaluable free tool that can help to organise your projects into boards and checklists. Visual people will love this, as you can see clearly which team members are assigned to which part of the project, and this helps you to see the overall progress reached. Trello is completely free, and we tend to use it when we're working on new website releases.
