Not spending time designing all the styles, layouts and variations at different break points beforehand, meant that we could in a way, design by development. We wouldn't wait until something was perfect to build it but instead just built something and worked on getting it perfect. This did mean that there were days where we would measure once and cut ten times but it also allowed for constant testing, development and more importantly, discussion on improvements which helped keep everyone engaged and involved with the project.

With 30 million users in Britain, half of whom return every day, Facebook has the reach and now revenue to give Shields real clout. Indeed, she knocked Google's UK boss Matt Brittin off the top spot to number four in this year's list. The UK remains Google's second biggest territory in terms of revenue - £2.15bn in 2010 - but the consensus among those we polled was that it's now Facebook's moment.
The position would suit somebody with proven experience in online journalism, and an exhaustive depth of ideas and energy, looking to take the next step in their career. The best candidate will be able to write tight and timely breaking news, turn their hand to reviews, features, video and audio production, and most importantly live and breathe the concepts, technology and innovation that fuel the WIRED world.
